WHAT HAPPENED TO BEING BLACK?

WHAT HAPPENED TO BEING BLACK?

Now that I am given an opportunity to voice my opinion, I have decided to make my first post about something affecting our Africa.

We are all unique, beautiful in our own way and most importantly created with God's image. As Africans we are said to be black and that blackness varies from light skinned and dark skinned. People grew up telling themselves that the most beautiful people in the world are the ones with white skin then when they are old and independent, they start buying creams so to bleach their skin and be'' beautiful''. I am thinking that the reason behind that is  lack of love and satisfaction for themselves.

People are so desperate of being told that they are beautiful that they even put their lives in danger. They think that white means beauty, forgetting that after  bleaching their skin  severe pains will follow, they will not be able to walk freely without covering their faces and may even encounter diseases
.”
While Mshoza  herself admits that her decision to lighten her skin is indeed “part of … a self-esteem issue,” can we safely conclude that skin bleaching, a now global, and widely practiced phenomenon, is the result of low self-esteem and/or self-hatred??

  1. I totally understand and agree with you & also appreciate the fact that you've noted this and took a stand to speak about it. I think we lost our confidence during oppression when whites were pretending to be only better people on this planet and we took it from there, hence we compelled our selves to look like them in anyway.and its true that media influenced us to this because it used white ppl mostly and we thought that to be in front of ppl you have to be a yellow bone also it spreads those bleaching products.and I just think to solve this is just a about loving ourselves and be confident of the fact that we are black and preach that word to our children that we are not black by mistake its a blessing from god and we must embrace it.

  4. We often say that we are proud of being black but we're not proud of our dark/"black" skin...who said that having light skin defines beauty. We should stop acting as if we are brainwashed

  5. You know sometimes our low self-esteems are sometimes affected by what people say about us. the first is accepting who you are. we are all beautiful

  6. Media is to blame for this obviously it has made us believe that one is not beautiful enough if they do not meet certain beauty standards, beauty comes in different forms and we need to recognise that and appreciate we who we are.

  7. People are so stupid, changing their skin appearance thinks that will make them beautiful. I'm not against anything but personally I would not do that because I love my skin colour the it is.

  10. I agree with you guys black is beautiful and people need to accept that. God created us the way we are, let us accept that and not change to be something we are not.
What will happen to those little black children's when they grow up if we continue like this
Accept you skin colour and love your self

  11. People have to accept the way God have made them to be, be who you are and be able to know things that makes you happy.Nothing is important more than knowing who you are, be real, look real and most importantly you have to know that you are special.

I think dark skinned people should be appreciated and should be treated like all other people. They should not be labelled and I personally think dark is beautiful!!!
